Staff Judge Advocate Counsel Assistant Program (SJACAP)

Mission

SJACAP enhances Fleet legal readiness by providing legal support personnel across the enterprise with resources, reach back to expertise, and best practices by collecting and integrating Fleet feedback to inform policy and training, and by assessing legal support effectiveness to continuously improve the support the JAG Corps provides the Fleet.

Functions

SJACAP assists judge advocates, Legalmen, and civilian paralegals across the Fleet to support leaders in making sound decisions informed by the law, ethics, and policy. SJACAP accomplishes this by maintaining a call and email center for staff judge advocates in the field; developing and disseminating guidance on emergent legal issues; providing knowledge management of a wide range of staff judge advocate resources; assisting with routine assessments of staff judge advocate offices throughout the Fleet; and working with Naval Justice School and Code 73 to maintain and expand the training curriculum for staff judge advocates.
