Basic Staff Judge Advocate
Administrative LawThis basic level course provides an intensive review of key legal issues in core SJA practice areas. Topics include administrative investigations, ADSEP processing, government ethics and standards of conduct, professional responsibility, fiscal law, civilian personnel law, IG investigations, grievance procedures, installation issues, and relations with civil authorities. This course also includes a review of military justice associated with the SJA practice, including evidentiary issues, post-trial processing, VWAP, and the SAPR Program. This course provides initial ethics counselor certification.
Pre-Requisites
'Ethics for the SJA' (Blackboard online) within three years prior to attending this course.
Target Audience
All second tour judge advocates and more senior judge advocates assigned as a member or principal Staff Judge Advocate to a Special Court-Martial Convening Authority, junior member (e.g. Assistant SJA) of a General Court-Martial Convening Authority’s SJA office, Region Legal Service Office command services department serving as a Staff Judge Advocate, or OJAG office with commensurate responsibilities or enlisted paralegals on independent duty.
