Change of Command
Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Navy and Commander, Naval Legal Service Command Rear Adm. James W. Crawford, III, left, congratulates Capt. Charles N. Purnell during the Defense Service Office Southeast (DSO SE) change of command ceremony where Cmdr. Margaret A. Larrea relieved Purnell, July 11, 2014. Purnell is to assume duties as the Circuit Judge for the Central Judicial Circuit. DSO SE provides legal advice and representation to eligible service members at courts martial and administrative proceedings, including enlisted administrative separation boards and officer boards of inquiry, within the assigned area of responsibility.
Chief Legalman Rebecca Miles, assigned to Submarine Force Atlantic, and Lt. Zack Dembo, judge advocate assigned to Region Legal Service Office Mid-Atlantic, chaperoned a group of summer law school interns, high school senior legal studies interns and two lieutenant junior grades whom will be attending the basic lawyer course at the Naval Justice School this summer, on a submarine tour in Norfolk Va. The group toured the USS Montpelier (SSN-765), a Los Angeles-class submarine which is the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for Montpelier, Vermont. She was the first submarine to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Region Legal Service Office Southwest (RLSO SW) change of command ceremony where Cmdr. Jennie Goldsmith relieved Capt. Dave M. Harrison as the RLSO SW commanding officer, July 18, 2014. RLSO SW supports the operational readiness of Department of the Navy Commands and Sailors in the Southwestern United States by providing legal guidance, support services and training in the areas of military justice, administrative law and legal assistance.
